Multihull Cup fleet is all set for the opening day of racing

With only hours to go to the start of the Multihull Cup 2025, the diverse fleet of performance multihulls were today making their final preparations and taking the opportunity for some last-minute tuning and practice off Mallorca’s magnificent southern coast.

Setting out from their welcoming base in Port Adriano the race fleet, which includes three Multihull Cup debutantes, were aiming to take advantage of a forecast 9 to 14 knot north-westerly breeze after earlier lighter wind.

“For the opening day of racing tomorrow we are expecting potentially light and variable conditions, so the fleet is looking to dial in to the sea and wind state out on the water,” said Event Manager Marianne Maatjes.

“Given the experience and skills evident across the crews we will see some close racing on the opening day. And with stronger breeze forecast for Saturday and Sunday there is everything to play for – watch this space!”

Last year’s Multihull Cup runner-up was the 84-foot Allegra, a regular presence at the celebration of multihull sailing and looking to go one better at the event’s seventh edition.

Looking to spoil Allegra’s party are the trio of first timers: Falcon, Layla and Gaea. Matteo Uliassi’s yellow foiling DNA F4 catamaran Falcon showed her potential earlier in the year when taking line honours at the RAN 630, and her America’s Cup winning skipper Shannon Falcone will no doubt be aiming for a repeat performance.

Meanwhile the semi-custom Morrelli & Melvin 65 Gaea is owned by the Canadian double Olympic windsurfer Zach Plavsic and features a highly experienced crew which includes Quinny Houry, Director at North Sails Palma, an event partner of the Multihull Cup alongside Gunboat, GT Rigging and BM Composites.

Also set to be in the competitive mix thanks to a high-performance rig plan and carbon wing mast is the flybridge Gunboat 72 Layla, the largest of the new competitors and the winner of the 2025 IMA Caribbean Maxi Multihull Series.

The warning signal for the first day of racing at Multihull Cup 2025 is scheduled for 12:00 tomorrow.
